So I was lazy last night and didn't give a gift to the blog. My bad. So today, I give you two gifts:
Chapter 38 of Fates is complete.
And for those worried about forgetting something that's happened in the two very action-packed months of Fates, check the top of the blog, under the big picture of Sarah. You might find a surprise waiting for you.
Or you can just click here.

The Fates Guide is beyond awesome. Nuff' said.
ReplyDeleteI want to say thank you for the set up. You could have made us go through a lot of chapters, before resolving anything with Chuck and Sarah.
ReplyDeleteBut you didn't. So thanks.
And didn't Sarah tell Ellie that she's older than Ellie?
BTW,is Chuck ever gonna admit his bluff about her father to Sarah?
Awesome update :D Particularly love the line in the guide that Sarah "trips while doing a victory dance on the way out" :D You rock.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Anonymous, Genie! Glad you like the guide!!
ReplyDeleteSparky, Sarah told Ellie that she's older than Chuck (by like four months, so it doesn't actually count, but Sarah also follows spy logic). She's definitely not older than Ellie. In canon, Sarah is a year older than Chuck, but canon screws up the whole "Five years between Stanford and the Intersect," so I fudged some dates to make "five years in bunkers" work for Chuck. And Chuck will probably never admit that bluff to Sarah. He's not proud of himself, and Sarah seems okay with him now. No reason to upset the status quo.
Heh, resolved? Dating is rough, people. Especially when you're a spy, as Chuck has proved time and again. :-P
Thanks for the info.
ReplyDeleteOf course,i don't expect you to give us anything that is close to "normal" or stable, the show writers certainly didn't. But i'm happy with the little piece you threw our way :P -no,i'm not a puppy!-
so is the next chapter about the big date? actually, where can they go seeing that chuck freaks out in a crowd? hmm how about dinner under the stars at the davenport's garden?
ReplyDeleteUpdate needed to the last entry in the guide!
ReplyDeleteThe Sarah trip should now be referred to as the Incident known as, 'The SarahStumble.' ;)
Hee .. The Sarah Stumble - the new dance sensation sweeping the nation!
ReplyDeleteOr - is it the opening sequence of a Pas De Deux?
Btw,i was watching some episodes from s3 again. Chris and josh was really doing their best to get Sarah and Shaw together.
ReplyDeleteMaybe it's better to be the guest star in Chuck :P
Speaking of guest stars, are we gonna see Shaw, Hannah or Lou in What Fates Impose?
ReplyDeleteAnd if Kristin Kreuk was this sure about relationships in Smallville,i would have maybe watched it :)
Guess it's time for a refresher on the Lou thing:
ReplyDeleteLou will not be appearing in Fates. It's not to say I don't like fiery Italians--I do--but the only canon characters that will appear in the story will do so in ways that make sense for them to appear. Chuck isn't working at the Buy More, so any storylines that originate there will probably never be seen in Fates. As far as Hannah, Fates will be over by the time that Hannah would ever be "on screen," and I don't know if I could outright resist making Hannah a soldier for an enemy faction, given her stalkerish nature. Same goes for Shaw. Part of it is sheer unwillingness on my part to write stupid characters, another part is that I have so many better stories to tell than his and I don't see Fates Sarah ever going for anybody besides Chuck. Yes, I'll just outright state it: there are no PLIs in "Fates." And unlike the writers of a certain season, I mean that. You saw the end of 38, you saw Chuck's little speech about not snapping at her, does she strike you as a woman who's going to start dating a block of wood anytime soon?
Coffeegirl - The working title of the next chapter is "Chuck Versus the First Date," so I'll let you draw your own conclusions from there. As for their first date, I HAVE planted a clue somewhere in the Fatesverse, that's only 400,000 words to search through or so. Good luck with that. :)
Lou, Peter - If the Sarah Stumble becomes a dance move, I'm a little afraid Yvonne Strahovski is going to come after me. Isn't she a dancer? Okay, I'm not actually afraid Yvonne Strahovski is going to come after me. I did have a nightmare where zombie versions of Sarah and Morgan came after me, but Captain Awesome awesomely saved the day. I have no idea where Chuck, Ellie, and Casey were.
Also, I need to not eat Edda-May O'Scanlin's famous chili before I go to bed.
The SarahStumble is no dance in my mind - sorry Pete. It is a character moment.
ReplyDeleteAs is a true Pas De Deux. Ballet is more than dance!
ReplyDeleteFrea, I do wonder though... when do you think will this be happening in the Fatesverse? :D [Note: the link is a spoiler from the sneak peek NBC posted in their site. So, click at your own risk!]
ReplyDeleteAnd damn, 12%. You just posted the chapter and you're already 12% in. When the season premieres, will we see a spike in the progress bar or will the excitement over the episode do otherwise?
Yes, yes, I ask a lot of questions.. I'm sorry. I'm just a spoiled little brat. Forgive me? The gif is actually a peace offering. :D
Thanks for the answer. Though,it would be sad to see "Fates" ending before "s3" :P -I know,it's long already but i'm sometimes selfish-
ReplyDeleteSEQUEL.
ReplyDeleteOr not. :P (Somewhere, Frea is terrified and doesn't know why.)
So THAT's where that headache came from! Thanks, Ayefah. ;)
ReplyDeleteActually, amusingly, the idea did hit last night to end Fates at a certain point and then if I wanted to cover the rest of the giant story, I could come back to it in sequel form. What Fates Impose II: The Hunt For More Reviews.
ReplyDeleteOr Fates Imposed, Bitches was my other title. It's still Shakespearean. Sort of.
Ayefah actually has the right idea.
ReplyDeleteImagine What Fates Impose as A New Hope. The sequel would be the Fatesverse version of Empire Strikes Back (can you believe it, somehow a story even more awesome?) where Chuck is intersected with the Fulcrum Dark Intersect and discovers that Orion is actually his father. And then the third story in the trilogy would take place in the Australian outbacks where Team Bartowski join forces with a roving band of koala bears and destroys a legion of the Ring's best agents.
Tell me you all wouldn't want to see that trilogy take place.
So Chuck and Sarah are siblings?
ReplyDeleteI thought I was Truthseekr, not MySoapBox. :)
Did I not mention this was the Tennessee version of Fates?
ReplyDeleteObviously things would be better if they were cousins. George Michael and Maeby showed us that was okay.
Was this before or after Maeby lost all of her hair?
ReplyDeleteAre you saying Sarah Walker wouldn't be hot bald?
ReplyDeleteOh, hell no. If Lt. Ilia can do it, Sarah Walker can, too.
ReplyDeleteTrue, I doubt it'd have any impact on how often Chuck beams Sarah. She thinks it's wonderful.
ReplyDeleteAs long as it's wonderFUL, and not stuffed animals and coins talking at her in bizarre moments of prophetic clarity and quirkiness, I'm 100% down with that.
ReplyDeleteBetter quirky stuffed animals than alien space puppets.
ReplyDeleteVery true; less gas.
ReplyDeleteseaboji here --
ReplyDeletenot even sure i should jump in given the previous back-and-forth between frea and mxpw, but i'm hoping frea can answer a question i have from chapter 38.
i found it interesting that russ davenport won the bet as to whether sarah and chuck "were a thing", since 1)russ hadn't even met chuck before, much less seen chuck and sarah interact, and 2) gwen davenport is the one who has seen firsthand how agent walker has gone above and beyond to rescue chuck, protect chuck, protect ellie, help chuck with his agoraphobia, etc. does gwen know sarah from back when she was the less emotional agent walker? or is russ just a hopeless romantic?
anyway, as i said in my review on FF, i really love this chapter. i clearly spend too much time thinking about it and the story in general. thanks again for your efforts!
seaboji
Hee, Seaboji,
ReplyDeleteRuss and Gwen are a fun married couple. I don't know if I'll have time to show them together in Part IV, but they're very odd together and yet somehow very well-matched. Gwen is high-strung, high-maintenance, and a complete bleeding heart who really feels for Chuck, so she's talked about him to Russ, who is laidback to the point of seeming completely lackadaisical (he's not, he's just really good at energy management). She's also talked about Sarah, whom Gwen is not sure she trusts (Sarah does come with a reputation as one of the CIA assassins, after all) or even likes, and there's a strong chance Russ, the romantic of the duo, read between the lines.
Or he's just betting against his wife for the fun of it. Always a strong possibility. Glad you liked the chapter! I love questions like these, so I'm glad you asked!
:)
Frea
thanks, frea, for the insight into russ and gwen.
ReplyDeletei think part of my interest in the question is the fact that gwen is a mystery so far in fates. sarah appears to trust her, but i'm not sure why given how the government has treated chuck (and herself to some extent) in the past. at this point, it seems like we know more about (the very likable) russ than the almighty protector gwen.
thanks again!
